Farewell, old car..

I have just said farewell to my old car, as it was ignominiously tipped up and dragged away by its hind-wheels. This dreadful old heap was but I youngster when we picked it up over a decade ago. Ah, (sigh) the places it has been, the things it has seen! We have brought babies home from hospital in it, gone on holiday, driven to work, driven round Scotland to speak in various churches in it, filled it with people, logs, rucksacks, bikes, sacks of coal, shopping, furniture, boots, sports equipment ... In recent years, the old heap was reserved for lesser duties especially hillwalking trips. The number of times I have peered down from a hill towards the road, and been able to spot this little car waiting for me, I cannot count!

The final insult however wasn't that the thing was dragged away to the knackers-yard, but that it was valued at a mere £150- Surely it was worth more than that!!!?!

  1. If the picture does indeed show the car being dragged by its hind wheels I think I've worked out why you only got 150 quid for it...

  2. It is unbelievable...! That car would cost thousands of dollars here in Ecuador. I remember when we had to sell ours and we only got £2000.oo. That wasn't enough to buy even a "fifth-hand" car here! I tell you something is wrong with the car prices over there (or over here!).

  3. The loss is great - new or old, a car is very difficult to replace. The memories are added sentiments; the practicality and convenience a car gives makes it an essential property. How do you fare so far?

  5. Oh, I pity your old car. It deserved a higher price! Your car has many memories stored in it and those memories are irreplaceable. Well, things do come and go. Cheer up, Hideous Man! :)

  6. They say, goodbye is just the beginning. Hehe. Nothing can ever replace the memories you had with your old car, but nothing lasts forever. Somehow, nature's telling you to get a new one. =)

  7. Oh, if you got paid for the memories that old car holds, I'm sure you'd be a millionaire. LOL. At least you now have the chance to start anew! :)
