New and Improved

Our church has got a new website (at last!). Out goes www.perthbaptist.org.uk and in comes www.perthbaptistchurch.org.uk - much better I hope you agree.

Looks pretty good! Ours could do with a revamp too.... if only we knew a web developer....

[pedant hat on] Hang on a minute... something can't be 'new' and 'improved'. If it's new, it can't be improved upon since there was nothing in the first place to actually improve. If it's improved, there must have been something to improve upon, and therefore it can't be new.

How very true
How wonderfully accurate
How sad.

If one was willing to take a purely chronological (rather than ontological, or indeed potentially epistemological) view of new then it can indeed be both new and improved.

I believe the appropriate phrase will then be 'it's a fair cop'
