The excitement of the day has been caused by yet another of my infamous unplanned slapstick routines. Stumbling about in the kitchen trying to tidy up, I dropped a mug. Clearing up the broken pieces of china, I managed to step on an especially sharp slice which got wedged in my heel. The offending little blighter is pictured below.
Despite much prodding a poking, with various pins and the tweezers from home, there was no shifting it, just lots of blood. Thankfully, my ever amazing wife ran to my rescue. She is a Dr, and happened to be out on house-calls, complete with medical bag. Out came a scalpel, a very sharp needle, some fine tweezers and the comment, "if I was doing this at work I'd use some local anaesthetic"......
A few minutes later the china object was removed, and I was lovingly bandaged up, with suitable sterile gauze and stuff - another happy customer of the NHS! Who could ever say I wasn't well looked after??Now - my next dilemma. Does anyone know how to get blood stains out of woollen carpets?

No idea about removing blood stains from carpets - but you could try dying the carpet red!
I was truly inspired by this story of everyday folks down your way - well by the photos actually. They really did fit with something that I've been mulling over.

For getting bloodstains out of clothes you soak them in cold salted water and then wash them once most of the stain is gone. You could try it on a carpet I suppose - it's unlikey to do any real harm. However, for clothes I was always told it should be done instantly before they were washed with anything else. This recommendation was handed onto me by my mother along with the advice that for grass stains one can first spread treakle on the clothes. I've never had the nerve to try that one......
Not sure about the stains, I've heard of an ammonia solution but not sure if the fumes would get ya first, or the carpet colour would change...I cheat and use a pre-mixed carpet stain spray.
hope you're feeling better and bravo to Mrs HM (a doctor, my hat's off to her) But did she use the kiddie cartoon bandaide to make things 'all better'? ;)
so, does this mean you'll be avoiding ceramic mugs, or investing in some house shoes? Birkenstocks are nice... ;)
I like the way you are photographing everything that happens to you- the glass that cut me, the first aid kit etc. Reminds me of Stephen Shore’s “American Surfaces” a marvellous book by a photographer who in the 70’s headed out across the USA intent on photographing the places he saw, the meals he ate, the people he met, the hotel rooms etc. It’s totally compelling.
